Russian forces are closing in on Pokrovsk, a strategic city for Ukraine as it holds important rail and road connections. Russia has been making rapid advances in the Donetsk region, and is now within 3 miles of this key Ukrainian transit hub. Ukraine’s top general said that they would have to make “unconventional decisions” in order to bolster Ukrainian defenses. Russia is also advancing several dozen miles to the south, and could soon seize Ukraine’s last two strongholds in the southern part of the region. Analysts believe that Russia is trying to make as many territorial gains as possible before Donald Trump takes office next month.
