Escalating Kordofan and Darfur fighting deepens Sudan’s dire humanitarian crisis
The UN reported 450 civilians killed around Bara and West Kordofan between July 10 and 14, leaving communities trapped amid shifting front lines and drone attacks. Mercy Corps suspended operations in three of four localities as 379,000 people fled to Tawila and 46,000 were displaced from West Kordofan in May, with measles and cholera outbreaks compounding humanitarian needs. Heavy rains and flooding in Dar As Salam displaced over 400 more and destroyed dozens of homes, highlighting how seasonal weather and conflict are blocking aid and deepening one of the world’s worst displacement crises.
