Thailand’s former Prime Minister has reported to prison to begin his prison sentence.

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was ordered by the country’s Supreme Court to serve a one-year prison sentence after it ruled his previous hospital stay did not count as proper incarceration. The court found that Thaksin had bypassed prison procedures by being sent directly to a police hospital for non-serious conditions, raising suspicions of special treatment. Following the ruling, Thaksin was transferred to Klong Prem Central Prison.
