IAEA proposes two-phase ceasefire zones for power line repairs.

The IAEA has proposed establishing two temporary 1.5-kilometer ceasefire zones to repair damaged power lines connecting to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which has relied on diesel generators since September 23. Ukraine provided safety guarantees for repair crews, but Russia failed to respond in time for the originally scheduled October 11-17 work period. The plant has lost external power ten times since the war began, and prolonged diesel generator failure could cause fuel melting and radiation release.
