Thousands of Afghans have been brought to Britain in secrecy after a data leak

Britain has closed a covert program that quietly relocated Afghans deemed at risk following a 2022 Ministry of Defence error that exposed nearly 19,000 applicants’ personal details. Defence Secretary John Healey apologized for both the data breach and the use of an unprecedented super injunction that kept Parliament and the public in the dark. Under the scheme, approximately 4,500 at-risk individuals and their family members have already arrived in the UK, with around 6,900 expected by the program’s end, at a cost of approximately £850 million. Critics warn that thousands more who assisted UK forces remain vulnerable and are calling for compensation and broader protection measures.
