Top pro-Kurdish lawmakers urge faster steps in Turkey’s PKK peace plan

Key Kurdish leaders have urged for a faster implementation of the peace plan with the PKK.

Senior pro-Kurdish lawmakers in Turkey are urging faster action from a newly formed parliamentary commission overseeing the disarmament of the PKK. The lawmakers stressed that the commission must move beyond procedural debates and enact reforms to sustain momentum following the PKK’s symbolic disarmament ceremony in July. They also called for a “Return Home” law to allow former fighters to reintegrate into society and criticized ongoing crackdowns on opposition figures, including the jailing of Istanbul’s mayor, as undermining peace efforts.
