The security of Haiti’s capital is in question as gang violence continues to increase.

Rising gang violence in Haiti’s capital has lead to concerns that the government will collapse. Haiti’s interim government has asked for the international police mission to be replaced by a UN backed peacekeeping force in order to restore order. The United States and other North and South American states have expressed their support for the idea. However, the UN Secretary General has said that political forces have held up the process on approving a mission.
