The U.N. envoy states she had a meeting with several major figures in Myanmar.
A widespread armed struggle against military rule in Myanmar began in February 2021 after generals replaced the elected government. Ceasefires have largely not been observed, and violence did not end after a powerful earthquake in late March devastated parts of the capital. The envoy said bringing a spotlight to violence toward ethnic minorities in the region will urge officials to find durable solutions to these crises.
