China has put increased pressure on Macao to diversify its economy.

After swearing in the new leader of Macao, Chinese President Xi urged the city to diversify its economy. The city and other neighboring governments have begun working together to jointly plan economic development. Macao has begun to focus on medicine, finance, tech, exhibitions and commerce. Macao has cracked down on dissent and passed a strict national security law.
