EU-Mercosur trade deal has been challenged in court by EU lawmakers.

EU lawmakers voted to refer the newly signed EU–Mercosur free trade agreement to the EU Court of Justice over concerns regarding its legality and potential constraints on environmental and health policymaking. Opponents of the deal, led by France, argue the deal could harm domestic farmers by increasing imports of cheaper agricultural products. Supporters lead by Germany and Spain warn that delaying the pact undermines Europe’s geopolitical and economic resilience amid U.S. trade disruptions and reliance on China.
