France has suspended a controversial pension reform.
French lawmakers voted 255 to 146 to suspend President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension reform, which aimed to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. The suspension was part of a political compromise by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to secure support for the 2026 social security budget and avoid a government collapse. The freeze will keep the retirement age at 62 years and nine months until after the 2027 presidential election.
