Global trade war escalates as US tariffs on steel, aluminum imports launch 

U.S. tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports took effect on Wednesday morning, levying a 25 percent duty “with no exceptions or exemptions.” U.S. trading partners quickly expressed their objections, with Europe announcing retaliatory measures. The European Commission responded with counter duties on 26 billion euros ($28 billion) worth of U.S. goods which will begin next month. President Trump plans to levy additional tariffs on the European Union, Brazil, and South Korea starting on April 2. He claims that the taxes will help the U.S. metals sector, creating jobs.
