Mexico and Canada announce one-month pause in threatened Trump tariffs

On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, and U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the threatened U.S. tariffs would be paused for one month. The measures were expected to come into effect on Tuesday, but social media posts confirmed the agreement delaying the tariffs just one day before. Sheinbaum stated that Mexico will now send 10,000 National Guard troops to its northern border, and the U.S. will work to prevent the trafficking of high-powered firearms to Mexico. Trudeau added that his government will list Mexican cartels as terrorist groups and launch a new Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force against organized crime, money laundering, and fentanyl.
