Qatar has warned that LNG shipments to Europe could be cut off over new laws adopted by the EU.
Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi warned that the country may halt liquefied natural gas exports to Europe due to the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, which mandates strict environmental and human rights compliance for companies operating in the bloc.. Despite attempts to engage with EU officials for nearly a year, Kaabi said the European Commission has not responded adequately to Qatar’s concerns. He emphasized that unless the EU revises the directive, Qatar may redirect its energy exports to more business-friendly markets, potentially impacting European energy security and competitiveness.
