The United States announced a new round of Iran-related sanctions targeting networks and individuals helping fund Tehran’s government. The Treasury Department explicitly designated 17 additional vessels comprising part of Iran’s illicit “shadow fleet” used for oil and gas exports. The targeted tankers—including various foreign-flagged vessels—had carried millions of barrels of crude and petroleum products in violation of existing restrictions. Treasury officials emphasized that the campaign aims to choke off petroleum revenues used to wage regional conflicts and pressure the Iranian economy. The move coincides with intensified U.S. and allied enforcement efforts designed to crack down on sanctions evasion and safeguard vital shipping channels.
