Earthquake in Turkey kills one, damages buildings across Balikesir

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Turkey’s Balikesir province on Sunday, killing one person and injuring 29. The epicenter was in Sindirgi, where 16 buildings and two mosque minarets collapsed, most of them derelict. Shocks were felt as far as Istanbul, and officials urged residents to avoid damaged structures due to ongoing aftershocks. Turkey’s disaster agency reported a 4.6-magnitude aftershock and warned of further seismic activity.
