A newly elected Mayor in Germany was stabbed on Tuesday.

Iris Stalzer, the newly elected mayor of Herdecke in western Germany, was found at her home with life-threatening wounds and airlifted to a hospital. Authorities stated there is no evidence of a political motive behind the attack and suspect a family connection, with her children assisting police in the investigation. Stalzer, a member of the center-left Social Democrats, had recently won a runoff election and was set to take office on November 1. Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the incident as an “abhorrent act” and expressed hope for her full recovery.
