On Tuesday, Arab leaders gathered in Cairo and endorsed Egypt’s plan for Gaza’s reconstruction. The plan will allow Gazans to remain in the territory while reconstruction efforts occur. The proposal counters President Trump’s plan to expel Gaza’s 2.3 million residents while the territory is redeveloped. Representatives from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia were in attendance. The plan includes de-mining the territory and temporary housing in an initial recovery phase, with a longer reconstruction phase following. Egypt is working with Palestinians to create an administrative committee that will govern Gaza and oversee the region’s affairs temporarily.
