At least 11 killed in India after stampede at cricket celebrations

At least 11 people were killed and 33 were injured in a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where thousands gathered to celebrate the victory of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025. The injured have been admitted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Vaidehi Hospital. Seven succumbed to their injuries at Bowring Hospital, while the other four breathed their last at Vaidehi Hospital. The stampede took place at gate numbers 3, 10 and 21 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Thousands of fans thronged the Chinnaswamy stadium to catch a glimpse of the team’s stars, including the talismanic Virat Kohli. Before heading to the stadium, the RCB team went to Vidhana Soudha for a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Three metro stations — Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, and MG Road — which fall within a five-kilometre radius of the stadium, have been closed. However, the operations resumed after some time.
