Belarus frees two priests after Vatican talks.
Two Roman Catholic priests jailed on politically linked charges were released in Belarus following Vatican discussions. Rev. Henrykh Akalatovich, sentenced to 11 years for treason, and Rev. Andrzej Yukhnevich, convicted of child molestation but described by activists as a political prisoner, had both denied the accusations. Their release comes amid signs of thawing ties between Minsk, the Vatican, and the West, after earlier prisoner releases followed a call between President Lukashenko and U.S. President Donald Trump. Opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya welcomed the move, noting many clergy and political prisoners remain behind bars.
