Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to meet on Tuesday with US President Donald Trump in the two leaders’ first face-to-face discussion since Carney’s election. Trump has imposed tariffs on Canada, who is the closest ally of the US as well as its top trading partner. Trump also claims that Canada should not be an independent country due to its reliance on the US, and has discussed making the country part of the US. Canadians hope that Carney will push back against Trump, but he must play a balancing act and avoid antagonizing him in front of the media.
