Congo’s fast-moving Ebola outbreak becomes the country’s worst with over 2,300 dead

Congo’s Ebola outbreak becomes its deadliest on record.

Congo’s latest Ebola outbreak has surpassed 2,300 deaths and nearly 5,000 cases, spreading faster than any previous outbreak in the country and outpacing response efforts. Health officials say limited community engagement, misinformation, unpaid workers, rebel activity, and poor roads are hindering containment as most new infections occur outside monitored contacts. With no approved vaccines or treatments for the Bundibugyo strain, cases continue rising across six provinces, reaching weekly records and overwhelming local systems. The U.N. has deployed additional staff and funding as experts warn the virus is advancing at an exceptional pace and requires a rapid scale‑up to prevent further devastation.
