Conservatives Hobble Iran’s Moderate President, Stoking a Political Crisis 

Iran’s conservatives are fueling a political crisis, ousting two high-profile officials and throwing the new, moderate government into chaos. The ousting occurred as Iran faces multiple other crises, including inflation, energy shortages, the defeat of allies, and President Trump’s return. On Sunday, Iran’s judiciary forced out Vice President of Strategy Mohammad Javad Zarif and the parliament impeached Minister of Finance Abdolnaser Hemmati. The two entities are controlled by the conservatives, and have warned that further impeachments will come. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered an angry speech to Parliament over the weekend following the events.
