Denmark has revealed new plans to increase its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic region. On Monday, Denmark announced that it would pump an additional $2.05 billion into security measures. This announcement comes as the country faces demands from U.S. President Donald Trump to give the U.S. control of Greenland. Greenland has significant mineral resources, and as melting ice in the Arctic opens up new shipping routes the country’s strategic value is increasing. As part of Denmark’s new security package, the country will add three new ships to the Arctic waters, get more long-range drones, and increase its satellite capacity.
