EU envoys approve new Russia sanctions listings, diplomats say

European Union envoys on Wednesday approved 1,646 new designations under the bloc’s Russia sanctions regime, with the majority targeting the country’s military-industrial complex, three EU diplomats said. More than half of the new listings cover the production chain for Russia’s ballistic missiles, including the Iskander-M system, which can only be reliably intercepted by U.S.-made Patriot interceptors that Ukraine has nearly exhausted as Washington diverts resources to the Gulf. The list also covers missile testing and research, solid fuels and rocket engines, specialized textiles and fibers, drone manufacturers, submarine-servicing shipyards, and 77 Russian politicians tied to occupied Ukrainian territories. The designations will be formally adopted when EU foreign ministers meet on Monday.
