Germany’s Coalition Collapses, Leaving the Government Teetering 

Germany’s coalition has collapsed, leaving the government destabilized as Europe faces new challenges with Donald Trump’s recent election. Following months of disputes among the coalition, Chancellor Olaf Scholz fired his finance minister on Wednesday. This has destabilized the center-left government. Scholz will continue to govern for the rest of the year and then plans to call for a confidence vote in Parliament. This could potentially lead to early elections as soon as March. Europe is now possibly facing a trade war with the U.S. as well as a weakening of the NATO alliance. With France’s government in crisis and Russia making advances in Ukraine, the coalition collapse in Germany only adds on to Europe’s economic and security challenges.
