The Philippines is preparing for a fifth storm to hit the country in just three weeks. Officials have raised the country’s highest storm alert, evacuating thousands of people. Super Typhoon Usagi is set to make landfall on Thursday with sustained winds up to 115 miles per hour. The typhoon will first hit the main island of Luzon, the Philippines’ most populous agricultural region. The series of storms to hit the islands have already killed 159 people over the past few weeks. Potentially “life-threatening” coastal waves are expected to hit the country. Researchers in the region say that storms are increasingly forming closer to coastlines.
