India’s parliament failed a bill to expanded the number of seats in its parliament.
India’s government failed to secure passage of a constitutional amendment that would expand the size of parliament, a move tied to implementing long-promised women’s representation quotas. Opposition parties accused the ruling coalition of rushing the bill without adequate consultation and warned it could shift political power toward certain states.
