Syrian state media has reported that Israel carried out air strikes near Tartous, Syria’s Mediterranean port city. The Israeli army stated on Monday that it struck a military site holding weapons from the previous Syrian regime. Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria since December, when former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was toppled. Israel states that the air strikes are attempts to prevent Syrian military assets from making their way into the wrong hands.
