The deadline for Israeli troop withdrawal out of southern Lebanon has passed, and Israel is pulling its forces out of the area. The Israeli military continued to draw back its troops Tuesday morning, and a majority of the forces will meet the agreed upon deadline as part of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah. However, Israel has said that it will retain positions in five strategic locations, preparing for the need to resume hostilities. An Israeli spokesperson claimed that the positioning was approved by the U.S.-led body which is monitoring the ceasefire. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had previously raised concerns that Israel would not achieve a full withdrawal by the deadline.
