Japan has chosen to suspend funding to a UN women’s right panel after it called for the end of male-only imperial succession.

Japan has given notice that it will suspend funding for a UN women’s rights panel after it called for the end of male-only imperial succession. The government asserted that the imperial succession policy was not a threat to the status of women in the country and the panel’s report was inappropriate. The government has also canceled a visit by members of the UN panel that was scheduled for later this year.
