Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney won a new term on Monday night in a turnaround moment for Canada’s Liberal Party. The party has surged in popularity following US President Trump’s aggressive stance towards Canada and threats to make the country the US’s 51st state. By winning a majority of seats in the House of Commons, the Liberals will be a stronger and more stable majority when passing legislation. The Conservative Party had maintained a solid lead in polling until Trump’s March tariffs took effect on Canadian goods.
