Moldova has expelled three Russian diplomats from the country. The expulsion came after Moldova accused the Russian embassy of helping a pro-Russian lawmaker escape the country. Russia has promised retaliation in response to the orders. The lawmaker, Alexander Nesterovschii was soon to be imprisoned over illegal political funding charges, but escaped to the Russian-backed Transnistria region shortly before. Moscow has denied all involvement, although security footage shows Nesterovschii entering the Russian Embassy the day before his sentencing.
