North Korea Begins Dismantling Key Facilities at the Sohae Satellite Launching Station

Satellite imaging has found that North Korea is dismantling a satellite-launching and rocket-engine testing facility, the first sign of progress following weeks of inaction after what many fear to have been empty promises during the Trump-Kim summit. “Since these facilities are believed to have played an important role in the development of technologies for the North’s intercontinental ballistic missile program, these efforts represent a significant confidence-building measure on the part of North Korea,” writes 38 North, a media organization dedicated to coverage and analysis of North Korea. Whether this development represents the first step towards eventual denuclearization or simply a political ploy, remains to be seen.
