Philippines, US sign military intelligence-sharing deal to counter China 

The Philippines and the U.S. signed an agreement on Monday that will increase security ties between the two countries. The deal addresses military intelligence sharing between the Philippines and the U.S. as they seek to counter China’s influence. The deal is called the General Security of Military Information Agreement and will allow the countries to share classified information. Additionally, it will facilitate the sale of certain classified technologies. Presidents of both countries are eager to counter aggressive Chinese policies in the South China Sea and near Taiwan. Earlier this year, the U.S. announced that it would provide $500 million in military funding to the Philippines.
