Rubio Oversees Halt to Foreign Aid and Meets With Asian Diplomats on Day 1 

Newly appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio began his new position on Tuesday after he was sworn in by Vice President JD Vance. He began his term by meeting with his counterparts from India, Japan, and Australia to discuss issues in the Indo-Pacific. Rubio was Trump’s first cabinet secretary to be confirmed. He has been outspoken on China and how the U.S. must confront China on a variety of issues. On Monday, Trump signed an order to halt foreign aid fund disbursement and the designation of new funds until a 90-day review is completed. The review will be directed by Rubio.
