On Tuesday, a Russian rocket carrying Iranian satellites successfully launched into orbit. The Russian rocket, a Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft, carried multiple satellites with it into orbit, including two from Iran. This collaboration is a sign of growing cooperation between the two countries. The Iranian satellites were identified to be Kowsar, an imaging satellite, and Hodhod, a communications satellite. A Russian-Chinese student satellite was placed into orbit as well. The Iranian satellites are the first to be launched by Iran’s private sector. The launch comes as Russia and Iran are expanding their ties across multiple spheres. The West is currently criticizing Iran for providing Moscow with drones to be used in Ukraine. Additionally, the two countries plan to sign a “comprehensive strategic partnership” at a future unknown date.
