Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled that he is open to the idea of holding direct talks with Ukraine over the conflict between the two countries. On Monday, Putin spoke to Russian state TV and said that he had a “positive attitude towards any peace initiatives.” The two nations have not held bilateral talks since immediately after the conflict began in 2022, but the US has been raising pressure for a ceasefire. A Kremlin spokesman said that Putin’s comments indicated that he was interested in direct talks.
