The Rwandan-backed M23 rebel group has declared a ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for humanitarian reasons. The unilateral ceasefire began on Tuesday. The rebels have been advancing towards Bukavu, declaring their goal of eventually taking the capital. Now, they have stated that they no longer intend to attack the city. It is unclear if the DRC’s military will respect the ceasefire.
