Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany has called for a confidence vote in Parliament. This is the first formal step he has taken towards disbanding the German government. It will lead to snap elections which are likely to result in Scholz’s removal from office. The parliamentary vote will take place on Monday. The breakup of the government first began in November when the chancellor fired his finance minister. This is an extraordinary political movement for Germany, which is known for having a stable government. Early elections will additionally take place on February 23.
