South Korea’s Defense Minister Steps Down Over Martial Law Decree 

South Korea’s defense minister, Kim Yong-hyun, has resigned from his position. He is the first member of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s cabinet to step down since Yoon declared martial law on Tuesday night. Kim took responsibility for the crisis that the declaration of martial law had caused. There are allegations that Kim suggested the idea to Yoon, but Kim did not address them. He will be replaced by Choi Byung Hyuk, South Korea’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a retired army general. The National Assembly will soon vote on Yoon’s impeachment .
