Storm floris disrupts Scotland with severe summer winds
Authorities in Scotland canceled trains, closed parks, and warned residents to secure garden equipment as an unusually strong summer storm toppled trees, felled power lines, and disrupted travel across northern Britain. The UK Met Office issued an amber wind warning for Scotland, highlighting potential risks to life, property, and coastal areas from large waves. Network Rail Scotland reported gusts up to 90 mph (145 kph) that downed trees and damaged overhead wires, leaving more than 22,000 homes without electricity, while mobile homes were even overturned on the Isle of Skye. Major tourism events and ferry crossings were canceled amid heavy rain and high winds at the peak of the summer festival season.
