Sweden Suspects ‘Gross Sabotage’ After Damage to Cable Under Baltic Sea 

Swedish authorities boarded a ship which they believe is connected to “gross sabotage” on an undersea communications cable on Sunday. The ship was then escorted to Sweden’s coast for further investigation. Authorities have not yet made public the exact damage to the undersea cable. This recent incident comes after multiple other suspected sabotage attempts to Baltic Sea cables. Two weeks ago, NATO began a new operation to protect critical sea infrastructure through increased patrols and surveillance. While officials suspect Russia to be behind the cable and pipeline sabotage, it has been very difficult to prove responsibility.
