U.S. Says It Wants Trade, Not Aid, in Africa. Cuts Threaten Both. 

U.S. aid cuts to Africa are threatening key road and energy projects as large infrastructure projects financed by the U.S. face an uncertain future. Workers are rushing to complete such projects in anticipation of funding being rescinded by the U.S. government. Last week, U.S. and Ivorian companies signed multiple deals including drone supply and border monitoring. The Trump administration has shifted its focus in Africa to trade instead of providing foreign aid, although diplomats and experts say the funded projects align with U.S. priorities by strengthening American influence.
