The U.N. atomic watchdog’s board referred Iran to the Security Council for failing to cooperate with an investigation into undeclared uranium traces, a move backed by Western nations and opposed by Russia and China. Iranian officials rejected the resolution as political and said ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes made inspector access impossible. The IAEA has been unable to verify Iran’s nuclear stockpile since the 2025 attacks, while Iran argues that military operations prevent normal safeguards work. The agency says Iran holds enough highly enriched uranium to potentially produce multiple weapons, though it has not confirmed any weaponization.
