UN’s top court says failing to protect planet from climate change could violate international law

The International Court of Justice has ruled that states have a duty to address climate change.

The International Court of Justice has ruled that member states have a duty to address climate change. They also ruled that private companies could be responsible for paying reparations for environmental damage they caused. The Court’s unanimous opinion came after a request from the General Assembly for an opinion on the question.
