The U.S. has enacted additional sanctions against Iran’s oil tankers in attempts to disrupt Iran’s income from oil. The sanctions are targeting 35 vessels part of Iran’s “shadow fleet of vessels” which transport oil. The U.S. is hoping to hinder Iran’s oil revenue, which finances the country’s nuclear program. Iran uses these funds for its nuclear program, ballistic missiles and aerial vehicle technology. It’s additionally used to sponsor terrorist groups in the region. The sanctions are similar to ones enacted by the U.S. in response to Iran’s missile attack on Israeli military sites on October 1 two months ago.
