Two Venezuelan exiles were shot outside a Bogota building in a targeted attack.
Yendri Omar Velásquez Rodríguez and Luis Alejandro Peche Arteaga were shot by two unidentified attackers just after noon on Monday as they exited a building in northern Bogota. Both men fled Venezuela last year, citing political persecution, and were hospitalized in stable condition. Velásquez Rodríguez founded the Venezuelan Observatory of LGBTQ+ Violence and was detained at Caracas airport in August 2024 while traveling to a human rights event in Switzerland, while Peche Arteaga worked as a political consultant advising Venezuela’s National Assembly in 2017 and 2018.
