Venezuela’s attorney general seeks arrest of opposition leader 

Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek Saab and his office are petitioning Interpol to issue an arrest warrant for the country’s leading opposition figure. The Venezuelan government is seeking the arrest of Leopoldo Lopez, a former leader of the Voluntad Popular political party. Lopez currently lives in exile in Spain after fleeing Venezuela in 2020. Lopez recently posted on social media supporting former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, who is pushing for the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This sparked the Venezuelan government to issue an arrest warrant for Lopez for various charges including treason and conspiracy.
