Wildfires threaten Bursa, Balkans amid record heat.
Drought, record heat, and strong winds have created wildfires across Turkey, threatening Bursa’s eastern suburbs, scorching over 3,000 hectares, and closing the Ankara highway. More than 1,900 firefighters battled the flames, evacuating 3,515 residents, resulting in two deaths, including a firefighter’s fatal heart attack. Greece, Bulgaria, and Montenegro are also battling fires, prompting evacuations, disaster declarations, and EU aerial support. Turkey hit an unprecedented 50.5 °C in Sirnak, with July peaks above 38 °C intensifying fire risks across the region.
